PEEPS
This is a list of links that more-or-less constitutes what I read around the web. It’s here not only to give the people who write good stuff some recognition, but here for my readers to to get some inspiration. If you’re not included below, and you think you ought to be, leave a comment on this page. I’ll definitely take a look at your blog, and if I like it, I’ll write about it. However, if the explanations below don’t give you the hint that I take this seriously… then, well, here it is: don’t spam me, dude.
—->Andrew Hyde was more-or-less the first person I met in the Boulder tech scene. He remains heavily involved in that community, and remains a friend to me. He undoubtedly is an important part of getting me to where I am today. He also writes a great personal blog, one that’s been going strong for awhile and just got a redesign — it’s a great place to check out some good advice on startups, some real nice photography, and just generally hang out with a cool dude. That shows up in posts like an Athens Photo Journal, and If I Started a Company Today, not to mention all you can read by clicking on the icon below.
—->Kath is great. The first time I met her (at Boulder StartupWeekend II), she gave me chocolate. If her personal blog didn’t rock, she’d probably make the list anyway for that reason alone. But the fact that it does only serves to put her over the top (and near the top of the page). She writes there about her life, and about Denver… but more than anything, the blog serves as a day-to-day reflection of a depthful thinker, who lives by her own constant leaps of faith. This post serves as a good example, but of course, you can click on the logo below to read more.
—->Micah Balwin (pronounced Mee-Haw) is a douchebag. Or at least, he is by his own promotion — Google it, and you’ll know what I mean. His secret, of course, that he tries to keep on the down-low, is that he’s a really nice guy. He’s been nothing but friendly to me since I met him, and though I don’t always enjoy seeing him be harsh or mean to people online, I always enjoy spending time one-on-one with him. Along with doing BizDev for Lijit, Micah writes a great personal blog. It’s one that reflects his natural duality. It can be harsh (if not mean), but it’s well-written, always entertaining, and at times, surprisingly vulnerable. This post is a great example, as is this one.
—->Meg Fowler is a writer, like me. We have different styles — I live in communicating ideas and in writing smooth stuff, but don’t have a flair for the classic creative stuff (and I was never classically trained). Meg, on the other hand clearly has the training and she has immense natural talent. Tell you the truth, I’ve never worked with her (at least not yet), so I can’t attest to her as a professional. But I can attest to the fact that she writes a great blog, highlighted by her (love) lists. Definitely check it out.
—->Michael E. Gruen is wicked smart. He’s one of those guys who exudes intense intelligence from the first word. I met him at Boulder Startup Weekend II, and he’s read my blog since… something I’ve always appreciated. Plus, he uses his middle initial in his full name (which is sweet), and on top of that even, he writes a damn good blog - a more or less random collection of interesting thoughts collected around his love for entrepreneurship and startup culture. This post is a fair example, as is this (awesome) one.
—->Aaron Brazell (technosailor) has some creds. He’s one of those guys who is solid in tech (and can play in that world), but who’s also solid when it comes to marketing, biz dev, and even photography. He seems like he’s got a toe dipped into everything, and it seems like he does everything pretty well, at least from afar. Even cooler, though, he’s a rabid Sox fan (which is aces in my book), and he’s always up for interacting with those expressing interest. That sort of friendliness shows in his blog, and combined with his knowledge and approach toward new business, makes for a real good read. This post is a good example, but there are a ton more. Just click on the logo to see what I mean.
—->Gwen Bell is a presence on the Boulder scene, overseeing a tech evangelist empire from her perch at The Cup. I’ve always liked her, and thoroughly enjoy our Cup Conversations - on everything from social media, to Sarah Palin, and back to the freelance lifestyle. She’s smart, she has some great ideas, and she isn’t afraid to put them all out there for everyone to see. Her new wedding site, Gwen and Joel, serves as a good example, as does her great personal blog, at Gwen Bell Dot Com. If you want passion, click on the graphic.
…more coming soon…

Brian-
Thanks for the kind words. I love fans.
AARON: You’re welcome, man… who doesn’t?
ha ha ha
I’m thinking of dropping my first name all together and just going as M.E.Gruen. e.e.cummings-style, but without the pretentiousness. No one calls me “Michael” anyway… Plus, it has this “ME, GRUEN, YOU, JANE” kind of quality to it.
Thanks for the shout-out. Much appreciated!
M.E.: I love it, man… M.E. is great. It has a literal meaning on its own (with its own URL extension), and while it adds something to your last name, doesn’t detract from the brand you’ve built around ‘Gruen.’ Plus, it’s just pretentious enough to piss some people off, which is always fun.
You got it about the shout-out… I think people should read your blog (and I think my readers will like it).
Thanks so much Brian for your very kind words! And while the post you linked to still takes my breath away when I read it (since I still can’t believe I actually wrote that on the internet, of all places!!) it’s cool to be recognized for the guts it took to put that out there.
And chocolate…yeah…I will always remember that first interaction!
Hope to see you soon
KATH: Sure, Kath… you got it. Sorry to pick out a tender post, but that one made my point more than others. It is indeed part of personal blogging!
